Hi,
what this means: "Futhermore, you must also include your Action class files
referenced in struts.xml" ?
Does this mean that I should include in command line all of my 100 action
classes ?

Thx, Milan

user_188626.ezm (zipped)No, it means you should include the directory *containing* the compiled class files. Jar files must be listed individually (trivial under Unix-like environments, nearly under Windows--set your classpath or do it from a shell/batch script; why would you do it by hand?!)

user_188627.ezm (zipped)You may need common-logging jar files to actually execute the plugin,
that is, in your java classpath.

You are driving ? Java 101 ? I must say I don't understand you :-(.
I now how to define classpath, but there is a lot of things to configure for
this SiteGraph plugin, so I'm asking if anyone have an example ?

Is this plugin going to work if I define action classes located in struts.xml

Java 101 just means really basic Java: if you put all the libraries in your lib directory that'd probably be enough (plus your build directory, I think somebody else mentioned).

user_188620.ezm (zipped)The wiki is a database, not versionable files. There's only one wiki, exported to files for the distros.
This means no matter what version of Struts a bit of documentation is for it's going into a single uber-wiki--we can't say 'okay, this is for version 2.1 of the wiki', all we can do is add version-specific info to the documentation, and for one reason or another this hasn't been done for this specific information. Anyone with a CLA on file could update this information (although TLD documentation itself requires commit access, adding a non-source-level note wouldn't require source access).

user_188628.ezm (zipped)Not quite, I'm trying to keep Spring out of the mix - I have a couple of
classes that manage access to remote services. They get defined in
WEB-INF/classes/struts.xml as singletons, and injected into Actions via
@Inject annotations.
Now I've realized that I need to give one of these classes a reference
to one of the others during application startup, before any Actions get
executed. I thought of using a Servlet's init method to handle it but
couldn't figure out how to get the references from Struts.
The less-pleasant alternative that comes to mind is to just make all of
these classes explicit singletons, and let Actions get them via
getInstance() calls, but that's a fair amount of rework.

Did you really meant injecting a bean defined inside Spring's
applicationContext.xml file with scope="singleton" into a Servlet? If
so, the answer is yes:
public void init(FilterConfig filterConfig) throws ServletException {
...
ServletContext servletContext = filterConfig.getServletContext();
WebApplicationContext context =

by the container(S2 internal Guice in this case), but servlets are
instantiated by the servlet container.

Sending e-mail *while* driving? You want a ticket, right? :-D

user_188638.ezm (zipped)Hi
I have a question about handling Exceptions in Action constructors
I have the following constructor in an Action
public SomeAction() throws BusinessComponentException {
someComponent = new SomeBusinessComponent();
}
Now when an instance of this Action is instantiated it may be the case
that the SomeBusinessComponent
constructor may throw a BusinessComponentException, the question is
how to handle this.
As an aside It's also the case that the methods of this action may
also throw such an Exception
but I can manage that fine.
The exception trace reveals the following
Unable to instantiate Action, ...
com.opensymphony.xwork2.DefaultActionInvocation.createAction (
DefaultActionInvocation.java:294)
I tried to handle this by putting the following in struts.xml
<global-results>
<result name="error">/friendlyError.jsp</result>
</global-results>
<global-exception-mappings>
<exception-mapping exception="
java.lang.Exception" result="error"/>
</global-exception-mappings>
But no joy. I think this is because of the way the Exception
interceptor does it's thing.
Here's what my book (Struts2 in Action) says
...When the exception interceptor executes during its postprocessing
phase ... Hmm, that would explain it, there is no post processing
phase because execution doesn't get that far. (I think).
Does anyone have a pattern for handling exceptions in Action constructors ?

user_188639.ezm (zipped)I think in this situation I would have SomeAction implement Preparable, and
put someComponent's initialization into the prepare() method, if I could get
away with it. I realize that might not be possible in your situation, but
not knowing more details it's my first suggestion.
