Hello everyone,
I don't know if anyone else got to goto the Groovy meetup before JavaOne in San Fransisco. I attended and I thought the experience was well worth it. I finally got to meet Mr. La Forge himself and they gave a useful overview into the presentations that they will be giving at Java One this week. Still one thing did irk me a bit. During the presentation IntelliJ's support for Groovy got high marks, while the Groovy Eclipse plugin while not panned, was said to be lacking.
I know I have not had time to devote to the plugin recently and it would be great if Scott could come back more active, but I think that the latest work on the dev site including the latest versions of groovy and including work done by the new committers from Project Zero and others is well worth promoting. I mentioned to Guillaume and to some interested ppl at Linked In that the primary problem is that we need to be able to have some people committed full time for a while. I know that Ed for a while had a contract from Big Sky, but other than that there is no one really working full time is there?
I would like to know what other ppl think if I try to push for some work full time on this plugin? I don't want to step on anyone's toes, and to be frank, this will probably not result in anything, but you know the excitement in the room and what I see from the net these days, I think that groovy could really be gaining serious momentum and Eclipse IDE support has to be part of that equation.
Also, I will be making a brownbag presentation on Groovy at eBay this friday, any tips or features you would like highlighted from the eclipse plugin? eBay is primarily an Eclipse only shop, so this could be a really nice chance to shine.
Thanks,
James
