Yes, doing it without params will work, but I don't think that this is a good solution.
The HB impl uses parameters as well.
The main problem with this bug is that lazy loading make it a pure _bitch_ to try to debug.
Yes, BTW for 1155 add pagination and order to the sub-select is the only available solution.
